We were up and ready to go before breakfast opened at 7:30. So we walked around the grounds of Tiquicia Lodge. It was a nice morning, sunny but had a little mist to the air right away but it was gone before you even realized it.
Breakfast was complimentary and included some fresh fruit, eggs, cheese, toast and jam. Also some orange juice (I drank Bryan's since he is allergic)!
We decided to check out right away after eating so we wouldn't have to back track any after our visit to La Paz Waterfall Gardens. It wouldn't have been very much since the Lodge was quite very close to it. But it was just as easy to do this.
We got to La Paz Waterfall Gardens shortly after it opened at 8 am. It is a beautiful area and we enjoyed exploring everything. They have this large trout pond where you can fish and have them cook it up for you. We didn't do that since it was breakfast time though. We also walked through their aviary and saw a bunch of cool parrots, toucans and a bunch of other species of birds. Then was the butterfly exhibit where you could walk around all of the different butterflies. I really wanted one to land on either bryan or me, but had no luck. I blame Bryan for constantly moving around. We also saw their monkeys, some frogs - even a few poisonous ones, their orchid garden and the coolest part for me- the hummingbirds. We were given a little flower feeder and they came right up to you. At one point I had 3 different ones on my flower. It was so cool. They move so quickly and there are just so many of them that it's hard to hold still because you can hear them busy by.
We also walked through their newest exhibition - the jungle cats. We saw a bunch of different cats including puma, jaguar & ocelot. From there we went to the waterfalls. There are 5 main falls and you kind of walk your way down past them. The tallest one was about 120 feet high. They have some cool lookout locations where you really get sprayed from their mist.
After the falls we took the shuttle back up to the main area of the Gardens. We did their lunch buffet and then went through the last exhibit - the snakes. I didn't think Bryan would even go in because he's so afraid but he did and he did pretty well. They were all in glass cases and mostly all curled up and sleeping. There were a few big ones too, but the snakes he was most afraid of were the long and skinny little guys.
After the Gardens we left and made our way over to our next resort, Nayara, located near the Arenal Volcano. It took us just over 2 hours to get there but we didn't make any wrong turns or get lost in any way.
Nayara is great as far as we've been able to tell. We got a tour of the grounds and then shown to our room. It's beautiful. We have a huge deck with a jacuzzi, recliner chairs and a hammock. I already claimed the hammock to do some journaling while bryan sat inside to watch the Packers game. Boy was I happy that didn't go into overtime. Not sure how well he'll be able to watch the next game though.
After the game we went to dinner at one of the restaurants here. I had a delicious steak and bryan for the buffet which looked really good but I didn't need that much food. Now to have a nice relaxing evening.
